Lower Blue Mountains Trip Report: 23-24 June
Participants: Chee, Anne, Ruchee, Bruce, Victoria, Cara, Trang and Cathy
Thank you to the above people who participated in our Lower Blue Mountains trip this weekend.
We started the weekend with a walk from Winmalee, up Blue Gum Swamp to Grose Mountain Lookout. Along the way we met a man who had walked with SUBW many years ago with many stories of club trips to share. He joined us to the top of Grose Mountain where we had lunch.
After lunch we walked back along Springwood Ridge, looping back around to the cars at Winmalee. About 15km covered on Saturday.
We stayed at Hawkesbury Heights YHA Saturday night. We ended up with exclusive use of the 12 bed YHA, which was enjoyed by all. The YHA had a huge, roaring fireplace and fantastic views across the Nepean River and Penrith. Everyone was impressed by the lack of dorms as we all either had single or twin rooms for $32 each. A highly recommended Youth Hostel.
Overnight we had wonderful chocolate mousse created by Chee and assisted by Anne, as well as pancakes and maple syrup served for breakfast again cooked by Chee. It looks as if again the ‘gourmet’ title is appropriate.
Today we packed up and drove to Springwood for our second walk. We walked down into the Sassafras Gully admiring the creek and birdlife. A final trudge uphill led us back to the cars. Another 9km covered.
Thank you to the wonderful group of walkers that joined us this weekend
